SSC BIG TRIP WINTER 2014:

The Finest Destination in the Alps.

St. Moritz, a picturesque, charming, world-famous resort city located in the remote Upper Engandine Valley, overlooking clear lakes, surrounded by 12,000+ foot peaks, including, the only four-thousand-meter summit in the eastern Alps undefined the Piz Bernina. The 13,280 foot peak features ice caves and a 12 mile run back to St. Mortiz!

Magic moments in a champagne climate

Facing southwest, St. Moritz attracts intense sunshine 300+ days a year. Dry alpine air, guarantees abundant powder.

Long before St. Moritz was a ski resort – it was a spa and a summer retreat favored by those who could afford it – the European rich and famous. With its ideal location nestled amongst towering glaciers, St. Moritz became a winter destination. Today it is renowned for hosting two winter Olympics, numerous world ski Championships, and a multitude of world class competitions, including the Cartier World Cup Polo championship, the world’s most prestigious winter polo tournament, battled on the frozen surface of Lake St. Moritz.

The 30th anniversary of the Cup will take place at the end of  the week we are in St. Moritz – who knows who will be in town while we’re there… British Royalty, perhaps?

Skiing

A short walk from our hotel is transportation to the mountains of the Upper Engadine.

Corviglia. The largest connecting mountain area in the Engadine, offering stunning, breathtaking views of the entire Engadine Valley.

Corvatsch.  The highest summit station in the eastern Alps.

Diavolezza. Known for the longest marked and secured glacial downhill route in Switzerland.

So much to do St. Mortiz…

Take a walk on the frozen lake where there's a constant hub of activity. The lake has walking paths and cross country skiing tracks both around the edges and across the middle. Wooden benches are scattered around the edges giving stunning views across the lake, up to the town, and the mountains of Corviglia. Every day people come to walk, run, XC ski, or sit back and enjoy the show.

There's plenty more going on in this charming town with it's balance of high end elegance and quaint bistros, chocolate shops, wine bars, sports stores, souvenir and gift shops, and more.

Accommodaions

Our accommodations are at the Hotel Baren –  a 4 star hotel with a fine dining restaurant, located in the heart of the City. All bedrooms are tastefully furnished, offering full amenities including an indoor heated pool, sauna and steam rooms. There's a nice bar for meeting après skiing and to plan our evenings together.

The hotel is just a short stroll from boutiques, restaurants, cafes, and just minutes via ski bus from the Corviglia Lift - the gateway to the area's most popular ski region.
